In the nineties, there was no shortage of annoying Germans. It started with Lothar Matthäus and Rudi Völler. Matthäus, because he would roll endlessly on the grass after a foul, and Völler because of his unbearable face. The baton was then taken up by types like Oliver Kahn, Stefan Effenberg, and Mario Basler. But the crown was arguably held by Andreas 'Andy' Möller.
Behavior, attitude, face, name... everything about Andy Möller was annoying. A delightful footballer to hate. Just look at his way of celebrating after his decisive penalty kick in the penalty shootout in the semi-finals of Euro 1996 against England. And try not to throw the nearest object through your screen.
As if that wasn't enough. On April 13, 1995, the Dortmund midfielder went down like a felled deer in the duel with Karlsruher SC, and the referee fell for it. Penalty kick. Laughable, but not if you're from Bremen. They couldn't laugh about it. That dive gave Dortmund the title that year, with just one point ahead of Werder Bremen.
Möller became the first footballer ever to be suspended for a dive based on TV images. Two matches was the lenient price for the deceit.
